LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky senior guard A'dia Mathies has earned Southeastern Conference player of the week honors for the first time this season.
The reigning SEC player of the year averaged 22.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in two victories by the No. 5 Wildcats. She also shot 73 percent (8 of 11) from 3-point range.
Mathies scored a season-high 24 points in Sunday's 97-53 victory over Auburn, hitting 8 of 9 from the field and 5 of 6 from beyond the arc. The Louisville native had 21 points and six rebounds in Thursday's 100-47 victory over Mississippi State, Kentucky's largest victory margin over an SEC team in school history.
Mathies leads Kentucky (18-1, 6-0) in scoring at 15.4 points per game; she's averaging a league-best 19.8 points in SEC play.
