LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky forward Willie Cauley-Stein has been named the Southeastern Conference's freshman of the week.
The award was announced Monday after the Wildcats' 7-footer had 11 points and 11 rebounds in Wednesday's 90-38 blowout of Eastern Michigan. Cauley-Stein is the first Kentucky player to record multiple double-doubles this season; he had 12 points and 12 rebounds in an 88-56 win over Samford on Dec. 4.
He added two blocks and two steals in the game as Kentucky (9-4) held Eastern Michigan to 38 points on 24 percent shooting, both lows for the Wildcats under coach John Calipari.
Cauley-Stein — averaging 7.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game — joins teammates Archie Goodwin and Alex Poythress as Wildcats to have been named SEC freshman of the week.
