LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – It’s a big get for the Derby City, the PGA Championship is returning to Valhalla Golf Club.
Ten years after Rory Mcllroy defeated Phil Mickelson to win the championship, the major tournament is coming back in 2024.
The championship will move to May from its traditional August tee-off.
Moving the tournament to May, a decision motivated in part to avoid a conflict with the Summer Olympics could create some new challenges.
The PGA of America has staged its championship at Valhalla three times since 1996. Only Wisconsin's Whistling Straits had held the event as often during that span. The 2014 tournament produced record ticket sales and a surge in TV ratings.
