Former Seahawk, Green Beret says team demonstration will show 'unification, respect'

SEATTLE – A Green Beret who enjoyed a brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks last season says the demonstration the team has planned before Sunday’s game will be “powerful” and show “respect.”

Seahawks players, particularly receiver Doug Baldwin, have hinted the team plans to do something prior to the game against the Dolphins at CenturyLink Field – the same day as the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

It follows a wave of athletes sitting or kneeling during the national anthem the past few weeks – a movement started by 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The gestures have received criticism from many, including those who say it’s disrespectful to veterans.

What the team plans to do remains a mystery. But Nate Boyer, who served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before being signed by the Seahawks briefly in 2015, says he knows and he tweeted about it Thursday.
