No. 10 Louisville beats up No. 2 Florida State 63-20

RECAP: No. 10 Louisville routs No. 2 Florida State

LOUISVILLE — Analyzing No. 10 Louisville's 63-20 blowout against No. 2 Florida State on Saturday:

THE BIG PICTURE: Did anyone see this coming? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Billed as the weekend’s biggest game and the only one featuring two top-10 teams, Louisville-Florida State was expected to be a bit of a nailbiter. No one predicted a shellacking.

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson was electric from the opening drive on, setting the tone for the beatdown with both his precision-point passing and his lightning-quick feet. Add in a strong defensive effort — particularly up front — and even some spectacular special teams play, and, well, there was little to complain about from the Cardinals' side.

Jackson was 13-for-20 for 216 yards and a touchdown through the air (plus one not-so-great interception, that proved irrelevant), and he rushed for 146 yards and four touchdowns.

Florida State, on the other hand, could do nothing right. Quarterback Deondre Francois struggled all game behind an overmatched offensive line that barely gave him enough time and space to get throws off; he was sacked five times throughout the game and intercepted once.

The Seminoles missed assignments and looked lost at times defensively, making Jackson's job even easier as he sliced up the FSU defense.Seminoles missed assignments and looked lost at times defensively, making Jackson's job even easier as he sliced up the FSU defense.

WHO WE’LL BE TALKING ABOUT: Lamar Jackson. He's undoubtedly the Heisman Trophy front-runner after a third consecutive jaw-dropping performance, this time against the second-ranked team in the country. Jackson's final line: 13-of-20 for 216 yards and a touchdown through the air, and 17 carries for 146 yards and four rushing touchdowns.

It's no exaggeration to say he's reminiscent of Michael Vick.

THE KEY PLAY: Jackson had so many highlight reel-worthy plays, but let's go with this one — a 47-yard touchdown scamper:

CRAZY STAT I: Prior to Saturday, Florida State’s worst loss in its 24-year ACC history had been 32 points. It's the worst beating for a No. 2-ranked team since Oklahoma 65, No. 2 Texas Tech 21 in 2008.

CRAZY STAT II: Jackson now has the most rushing touchdowns (10) for a quarterback in his team's first three games since 1996.

CRAZY STAT III: The number of Louisville football players who have ever won the Heisman trophy: 0.
