LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville City FC shined on soccer’s biggest stage to capture the 2017 United Soccer League Cup.
More than 14,000 turned out for the match against the Swope Park Rangers with Louisville Slugger Field being over capacity.
Just 6 minutes into the game, Louisville City got a free kick and a goal but it was waved off because of an offsides call – the game remained scoreless.
In the 89th minute, Speedy Williams came with the set up and Cameron Lancaster with the header home for the goal and Louisville City grabbed the 1-0 lead.
Just minutes later, Swope Park had an opportunity to score but Louisville City goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh, denied it.
Louisville City picked up the win and the USL Cup.
The team and officials are expected to speak at a press conference Tuesday.
