LCFC looking to beat Swope Park Rangers

Louisville City FC is one game away from taking home the championship trophy.

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- Louisville City FC is one game away from taking home the USL championship trophy.

The team plays the Kansas City Swope Park Rangers at 9 p.m. Monday for the title. Despite that late start time Slugger Field is nearly sold out. Tickets are still available for standing room only.

Tailgating begins around 3 p.m. outside Slugger Field. The team's support group, the Coopers, is hosting the party at a lot at Witherspoon and Preston.

The soccer spirit is taking over the Derby City, with the Paul Hornung statue already outfitted in the team's scarf. Over at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, the Johnny U statue is also rocking the fashion statement. Not to be outdone, Churchill Downs has the Twin Spires lit up in purple.

If you're just jumping on the soccer bandwagon, here's what you need to know. Lou City is riding an eight-game undefeated streak at Slugger Field.

The Swope Park Rangers are 18-8-9 this year, and the team lost in the USL Cup Final in 2016.

The Coopers promise there will be no shortage of fun ahead of tonight's match and want to see everyone come out to celebrate.

"We're going to be tailgating until around 8:30. Then, we're going to do our March to the Match, which is a great experience,” Tom Farmer, the president of the Coopers, said. “We encourage you to join us for that. We'll march into the stadium, and we're going to get set in our section and root these boys on to victory."
