SELLERSBURG, Ind. (WHAS11) -- The southern Indiana town of Sellersburg came out in full force for Silver Creek High School's first Friday night football under the lights since World War II.
The war forced the school to get rid of the team, but no one is quite sure why it stayed gone for so long. But, several years ago, the program started picking up steam again.
Last year was the first time in decades the school had a varsity football team, but their field wasn't quite ready, so all the games were on the road. Friday, they were hoping to break the new turf in with a win for the home crowd against Springs Valley.
A victory, however, was not to be. Springs Valley boarded the bus with a 46-29 win.
Just like the team, the season is brand new, and the hope for a win still strong.
