LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 1 Trinity saw erased two double digit deficits to defeat No. 12 Seneca 64-55 in Steinhauser Gymnasium as leading Mr. Basketball candidate Josh Sewell became the school’s all-time leading scorer.
Trinity improved to 20-2 on the season.
Sewell became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2:42 remaining in the third quarter on a three-point basket that cut a ten-point deficit to zero at 36-36. He finished the game with a season high 29 points. He hit 11-of-16 shots from the field including 4-of-5 from behind the arc, tying his career best. Sewell now has 1,331 points in his career.
Lee Morrison, a 1991 graduate, was the leading scorer in program history before Sewell broke the mark tonight. Morrison’s career total was 1,317.
Senior forward Taylor Epley added 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior Dylan Kupper added seven rebounds.
It was Trinity’s second win over the Redhawks this season. Trinity defeated Seneca 59-42 on Dec. 22, 2009 at Fairdale in the finals of the 2009 Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass, earning the Shamrocks their first ever championship in the event.
