March 11, 2013. Louisville, KY.   - The Kentucky Derby Festival and the Kentucky Beef Council are looking for the next 'Derby Burger' Champion.  Starting March 11, hamburger recipes will be accepted for submission in the second annual "Derby Burger Challenge," sponsored by the Kentucky Beef Council. "We are excited to see what recipes we receive this year! There are so many ways to make a winning burger. We have terrific backyard barbeque enthusiasts in Kentucky and we also raise and produce great beef here. This contest is an excellent way to combine the two," said Chuck Crutcher, Chairman of the Kentucky Beef Council and beef farmer from Rineyville, KY.  "Area consumers are encouraged to sharpen their grilling skills and enter a creative burger recipe."

"Derby Burger Challenge" finalists will be announced on April 4 and the winner will be selected on April 8. The winning burger recipe will be featured as the Local Legendary Burger at Hard Rock Café Louisville in April and May, recognized in Louisville-area and Lexington-area Kroger stores and samples will be featured at the Kentucky Derby Festival's new BeerFest presented by American Founders Bank. The winner will also receive VIP tickets to Thunder Over Louisville and a concert at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville, as well as a $100 gift certificate to Kroger and a grilling package from Kentucky Beef Council.
