LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Belle of Louisville may have crossed the finish line first, but Belle of Cincinnati won the Great Steamboat Race in overall points Wednesday night to take home the Silver Antlers.

The race is more than crossing the finish line first, each steamboat had to complete a series of tasks while maneuvering the race course on the Ohio River.

With a total of 130 points accumulated from a series of ten tasks during the day, the visiting Belle of Cincinnati was declared the winner of the 51st  annual Kentucky Derby Festival Great Steamboat Race, beating the Belle of Louisville.

Crew members from each boat competed in tasks such as jousting inflatable, obstacle inflatable course, handy line task and the monkey fist (a Skeeball like task where teams throw a rope ball or monke fist into trash cans).

  • Task No. 1: Jousting inflatable – Belle of Cincinnati 10, Belle of Louisville 0
  • Task No. 2: Obstacle inflatable course – Belle of Cincinnati 0 points, Belle of Louisville 10 points
  • Task No. 3: Handy line toss – Belle of Cincinnati 10, Belle of Louisville 0
  • Task No. 4: Monkey fist toss – Belle of Cincinnati 10 points, Belle of Louisville 0 points
  • Task No. 5: Paddlewheel Assembly – Belle of Cincinnati 10, Belle of Louisville 0 points
  • Task No. 6: Calliope contest – Belle of Cincinnati 0, Belle of Louisville 10
  • Task No. 7: Buoy flag retrieval – Both vessels were awarded 25 points
  • Task No. 8: VIP retrieval – Both vessels were awarded 25 points
  • Task No. 9: Bourbon barrel retrieval – Both vessels were awarded 25 points
  • Task No. 10: Boat race finish – Belle of Louisville was awarded 29 points, Belle of Cincinnati 15 points
