(WHAS11) - Jockey Calvin Borel has agreed to ride Kentucky Oaks winner Rachel Alexandra in the Preakness Stakes a week from Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

Borel rode to victory in both the Oaks and the Derby this year, atop Rachel Alexandra in the Oaks and Mine That Bird in the Derby.

He has decided to ride the filly instead of the Derby-winner in the Preakness.

Borel will apparently become the first Derby-winning jockey to leave his mount for another horse in the Preakness.

Borel has said in the past that Rachel Alexandra is the best horse he has ever ridden.

The Preakness possibility came up this week after Rachel Alexandra was purchased by winemaker Jess Jackson.

Jackson then transferred the big filly fromHal Wiggins to the barn oftrainer Steve Asmussen.

The defection of Borel to ride Rachel Alexandra leaves Derby winner Mine That Bird without a jockey for the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

However, trainer Bennie Wooley Jr. is said to be talking to jockey Mike Smith about riding the Derby-winner.

Smith won the Derby on Giacomo, who had a similar come from behind style as Mine That Bird.

In the switch to Rachel Alexandra, Borel apparently has agreed to ride the talented filly throughout her career.

Jackson has said he will continue to race the filly but will eventually breed her to two-time horse of the year, Curlin.
