(WHAS11) - The folks at the Kentucky Derby Museum have put together the first-ever fashion collection showcasing more than 100 years of Derby fashion.

It's 14-decades of dresses and hats that date all the way back to 1875.

The fashions span all the way to present-day.

The exhibit will run through December 31st and kicks off with Gala gowns and party dresses.

Later this summer, the exhibit will feature Derby suits, sundresses and the famous hats.

"The Louisville Science Center has a little-known collection of about 22,000 pieces that our curator and fashion designer for the exhibit went through all of the costumes and found some stuff dating back to the late 1800's," explains Wendy Treinen with the Kentucky Derby Museum.

The Derby Museum also asked the community to rummage through their closet and see what they still had from Derbys past.

Organizers say the community responded with a great showing of fashion.
