(WHAS11) - Some fans are calling it the chase for the "Calvin Crown."
That's because not only has a jockey never won the Triple Crown on two different horses, but a jockey had never given up his mount on a Derby winner to ride another horse until this year. Borel rode Mine That Bird to a Derby victory and then went on to win the Preakness with Rachel Alexandra.
Now he's back on Mine That Bird.
"Winning a triple crown, you know, might not be on the same horse but it's very good for me, for my career, another milestone. I got a lot of confidence in the colt. He looks good and everything and I'm confident 110% he'll win," said Borel.
Borel's first Belmont choice was Rachel Alexandra, but her owners decided to give the filly a break and Mine That Bird's connections happily took Borel back.
Mine That Bird is the morning line 2-1 favorite at the Belmont. Post time is just before 6:30 Saturday night.
