(WHAS11) -- Flooding on the Ohio River earlier in March will have a direct impact on Thunder over Louisville.
That's because the Great Lawn at Waterfront Park, where the fireworks show takes place every year, is in need of repair. It's a muddy mess right now where the river overflowed the banks.
“Mother nature was hard on us this time with extended long periods of flooding and the water was high for a longer period of time than we've had in recent years,” Ashley Smith, event manager of the Waterfront Development Corporation, said. “So we just hope for sunny, sunny warm weather so the grass can come back as quickly as possible.”
About one third of the great lawn is visibly affected by the flood.
Smith says their maintenance crews are working hard to make sure as much of the lawn that can be available, will be available on April 16 for Thunder.
