LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Can Trainer Doug O'Neill win back to back Derbys?

Team O'Neill is back at Churchill Downs with a Derby contender but also a barn with 15 horses that will run Derby week.

Goldencents won the Santa Anita Derby and will carry the hopes of O'Neill on May 4.

The son of Into Mischief, won the big California prep race after O'Neill made a midcourse correction in his training.

In an interview on the backside, O'Neill said he slowed Goldencents works, and even slowed his gallops. The changes worked. Goldencents was able to rate in the Santa Anita and conserve his speed. He easily defeated arch-rival Flashback and the rest of the field.

Now, O'Neill thinks he has a good shot in Saturday's Kentucky Derby. He says the entire team is more relaxed than in 2012, when they won the Derby with I'll Have Another.

And the veteran trainer says that feeling of confidence has influenced the horse. Doug O'Neill says his new beard and his Derby horse or both doing well.

They'll appear together in the paddock on Saturday, and it will be tough to ignore an O'Neill entry.
