(WHAS11) - Alpha is a horse of Godolphin's and he is one of the first to take the traditional American dirt race route to Louisville.
As the son of Bernadini, many believe Alpha is a strong contender in the Derby. Despite his problems at the starting gate and a healing wound, his trainers say he is improving and so long as the handlers do not upset him too much, he should prove himself on the track.
WHAS11's Gary Roedemeier spent some time with Alpha at the track and learned more about Alpha's story.
