For the fifth year, TARC and Miller Lite Free Rides will offer free transportation throughout Louisville on Derby Eve (Kentucky Oaks Day) to reduce traffic and provide a safe travel option.

The free TARC rides on Friday, May 3, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. will be available on all regularly scheduled bus and trolley routes, including routes in Indiana. The service is also sponsored by the Kentucky Derby Festival and River City Distributing.

The downtown Republic Bank First Friday Trolley Hop will make stops every 10 minutes until midnight on the Main-Market route, just south of Waterfront Park. The free service will travel to popular Derby Eve destinations including restaurants, bars, neighborhood events and the Derby Eve Jam concert at Waterfront Park.

“Miller Lite Free Rides makes it easier and safer for residents and visitors to celebrate Derby Eve,” said J. Barry Barker, executive director of Transit Authority of River City. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of the free bus and trolley service on Derby Eve and hope they’ll continue using TARC service throughout the year.”

Additional route and schedule information is available by visiting www.MillerLite.com/FreeRides, texting “FREE RIDES” to 90464 or calling 1-800-FREE RIDES (1-800-373-3743).

Barker also encouraged residents and out-of-town visitors both to use Google Maps to help find a route to and from their destination on Derby Eve and throughout the weekend.

“As a Louisville resident, I know that Derby Eve is about having a good time, but being responsible is important as well,” said Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad. “We are excited that Miller Lite is providing this program during the event, and hope it will help prevent people from driving drunk.”

In its 25-year history, Miller Lite Free Rides has provided more than 3 million free rides during popular holidays and events in cities across the country. The program has gained the involvement and support of local law enforcement, public safety agencies, state chapters of MADD, and other community and government organizations.
