(WHAS11) -- Kentucky Derby points leader Ive Struck a Nerve is headed back to Lexington after suffering a fractured sesamoid during a workout at the Fairgrounds.

Ive Struck a Nerve was the stunning 135-1 winner of the Risen Star Stakes and his 51 points placed him on top of the Derby point standings. But trainer Keith Desormeaux said the colt started favoring his left front ankle after a four furlong work in :48 2/5.

X-rays showed a fracture and Desormeaux thinks Ive Struck a Nerve might return to racing in six months. But for now, he'll be evaluated at the Rood and Riddle Clinic in Lexington.

That leaves four horses atop the Derby chase with 50 points. Vyjack, got his 50 points for winning the Gotham Stakes.

Orb won the Fountain of Youth. Verrazano jumped up as top Derby contender by winning the Tampa Bay Derby and Hear the Ghost was the surprise winner of the San Felipe Stakes.

Bob Baffert's Flashback is in 5th place with 30 points.
