LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Horse racing fans who want to attend all the races on Kentucky Derby day will need to arrive at Churchill Downs a little earlier this year. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on Tuesday approved the track’s plans to add one more race to both Oaks Friday and Derby Saturday. That will mean Oaks day will have 12 races instead of 11. Derby day will have 13 instead of 12. Both race days will start at 10:30 a.m. The move did spark some debate before it was approved unanimously. The Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association complained horsemen hadn’t been notified of the change. President Rick Hiles said he feared the track would have difficulty finding enough horses to race and would see a major drop in interest the following week.
