LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Mine that Bird is not only a 2009 Kentucky Derby winner, he is also a modern day artist.

"He did excellent, which is remarkable," said Mary Simons, Coordinator of 'Moneigh' Paintings

The project has had 13 out of the last 19 Derby winners do paintings.

There are people from as far as Australia who have bought the pieces. Karen Lawrence from Wellsville, Ohio started buying paintings six months ago.

Lawrence bought her last painting for $582.00. All of the money raised goes toward ReRun, which is a charity that helps find new careers and homes for former race horses.

ReRun has two major auctions around November and December. But paintings can also be found on eBay anytime of the year.
