Delta Queen awaits new purpose; Louisville's Belle awaits new opponent

(WHAS11) - In just a few months, she would be making her way here, but there are now new plans for the Delta Queen.

This weekend the public can board the delta queen.

She’s now docked in Chattanooga, Tennessee about four hours south of Louisville.

The steamboat’s owner expects the Delta Queen to become a floating hotel by the city’s waterfront on the Tennessee River, by May.

The steamboat did not receive a congressional exemption by last October that would have allowed the vessel to carry passengers overnight, so she docked.

This year’s great steamboat race will be missing the Delta Queen, but there will be the Battle of the Belles on the Ohio.

The belle of Louisville will race the Belle of Cincinnati.

It will be the Cincinnati steamboat’s fifth time in the race.

The race is on April 29 at 6 p.m. on the Ohio River.
