LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The University of Louisville women's tennis team handed Michigan Stateits first loss of the spring season on Sunday afternoon. The Cards won 6-1 and are now 7-1 on the season.
"We are finding ways to win. this team is mentally strong which is helping us in matches like today. We didn't play as well as we could have but we still were able to beat a very solid Michigan State team. We still can get better and we are still beating some pretty good teams."
MSU lost the doubles point, tallying one win at the No. 3 spot. Meyers and sophomore Julianne Gruber outlasted the pair of Rebecca Shine and Becky Bodine. The Cards won at No. 1, with Julia Fellerhoff and Manuela Velasquez defeated Marina Bohrer and Catherine Parenteau 8-7 (7-2). U of L won at No. 2 when Mandy Brown and Stefanie Villajuan won 8-6.
Julia Fellerhoff won at No. 1 over Marina Bohrer 6-4, 7-5. Rebecca Shine rolled 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 over Catherine Parenteau. Manuela Velasquez defeated Olga Chernova 6-4, 6-4. Mandy Brown outlasted Nicole Herzog 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 4. Picking up the only Spartan point was Emily Meyers at the No. 5, defeating Stefanie Villajuan, 6-2, 6-2. Becky Bodine won at No. 6 over Katarina Lingl 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
