(NEWS RELEASE) -– The University of Louisville’s Amber Thomas, Erin Conrad and Alyssa Voelmle earned All-BIG EAST Field Hockey Conference honors as announced at the 2012 Championship banquet Thursday evening. Thomas was selected to the first team while Conrad and Voelmle were named to the second team.
Thomas, a senior forward from Duncan, British Columbia, Canada leads the Cardinals with nine goals, and is tied for second with 19 points on the season. The team co-captain scored the deciding goal in two of the Cards’ wins over BIG EAST opponents.
Conrad, a senior goalkeeper from Wilkes-Barre, Pa, carries a 1.80 goals-against average with one shutout on the season. The three-year starter is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection and was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 29. Conrad has posted 13 career shutouts, ranking fourth on the all-time list.
Voelmle, a sophomore midfielder/defender from Hershey, Pa., has started all 19 games this season. The two-time All-BIG EAST selection is tied for second on the team with 19 points (8G, 3A). Four of those goals have come against BIG EAST opponents. Voelmle was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22.
No. 25 U of L (12-7, 3-3) earned the No. 3 seed in the championship and will face the No. 2 seed, fifth-ranked Connecticut (16-2, 5-1) in the semifinals Friday at 7:30 at Trager Stadium.
