Rick Pitino responds to Gee’s controversial remarks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – On Monday, June 4, UofL Head Basketball Coach Rick Pitino is responding to controversial comments made about UofL from Ohio State President Gordon Gee.

Shortly after Pitino spoke on Monday, Gee said so long folks. He's announced his retirement and it is set for July 1. His sudden departure comes after the comments he made about Catholics and UofL

Pitino's response came up coincidentally as he was helping to raise money for a new academic center on campus.

You'll recall it was Gee who joked about Louisville’s poor academic integrity. So Pitino, on Monday saw the chance to make his own remarks.

Coach Rick Pitino making his own joke at the expense of Ohio State President Gordon Gee who was caught making disparaging remarks back in December; for one, he took jabs at the academic quality of Louisville and Kentucky.

Pitino happened to be promoting his own Maker's Mark bottle to raise money for a new academic center on campus.

Gee also took a shot at Catholics and said priests at Notre Dame are only holy on Sundays despite apologizing Pitino a catholic himself didn't feel it was genuine.

The offhand remarks aren't a first for Gee but after coming under fire this time. He announced he's retiring in July.

Gee said his decision to retire was the result of some self reflection during a recent vacation. Those Maker's Mark bottles by the way go on sale Friday at retail stores.
