University of Louisville running backs Senorise Perry and Dominique Brown were nominated to the 2013 Doak Walker Award Watch List, given to the nation’s top running back, The PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Thursday.

Last season, Perry was in the midst of approaching a 1,000-yard season before a season-ending knee injury ended his year in October. Prior to the injury, Summerville, Ga., native ran for 705 yards and a team-high 11 touchdowns. Averaging a team-best 5.2 yards a carry, the senior from Summerville, Ga., registered three 100-yard games, including a career-high 118 yards and two scores in a come-from-behind win over Southern Mississippi. He surpassed the century mark for the first time in his career against Kentucky with 108 yards and later recorded 101 yards in a win at Pitt.

A former quarterback with the Cardinals, Brown missed the 2012 season with a knee injury suffered in training camp. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native made the transition to the backfield in 2011 and was second on the Cardinals in rushing with 533 yards and added four touchdowns. He also added 16 receptions for 98 yards out of the backfield. In his first game as a running back, Brown totaled a career-best 91 yards as the Cardinals snapped a four-game losing streak to Kentucky.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name the semifinalists on Nov. 14, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the finalists, who will be announced on Nov. 25. The committee will cast a second vote beginning on Dec. 2 to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.

The recipient of the 2013 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12 on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas, Texas, in February 2013.

The award, in its 24th year, is named for SMU’s three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
