The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field team finished the first day of the Meyo Invitational with a bang as throwers D'Ana McCarty and Jere' Summers took first and second in the women's weight throw.
McCarty broke her own school record with a NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 73-04.50 (22.36m). That mark is currently the best throw of the 2010 indoor season.
Summers placed second, right behind McCarty, with an NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 70-05.75 (21.48m). That mark is currently the second-best throw in the nation behind McCarty.
On the men's side, junior Matt Bruce won the men's 5,000-meter run. Bruce, a native of Oshawa, Ont., picked up an NCAA provisional qualifying mark by finishing in 14:03.36. That mark is currently the fourth-best in the nation this season.
The meet will recommence on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (CST) with the unseeded section of the women's 3,000-meter run. The meet is tentatively set to conclude at 4:40 p.m. (CST) with the men's 4x400-meter relay.
