(News Release) -- LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action this weekend after being idle for nearly two weeks, trekking east to compete at the 26th annual adidas/Winthrop Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Winthrop Farm course in Rock Hill, S.C.
The Cardinals will be among the 30 college and university teams competing at the meet, the largest field of runners in more than a decade at the event. Notable schools Louisville faces include southeast regional foes, Davidson and Liberty. The men’s 8K begins at 9 a.m. and is followed by the women’s 5K race at approximately 9:45 a.m.
Louisville is coming off an idle week after opening the season with both the men and women capturing team titles at the Mid-America Opener on Sept. 1. The Cardinal men were led by junior Tyler Byrne, who won the race in 17:53.16, was named BIG EAST Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week a day later. Gordon Dooley and Mattias Wolter finished second and third, respectively. On the women’s side, Michelle Molodynia registered a second-place finish and Maria Frigo, Kelsey Cramsey and Leah Kiyohara secured Nos. 4-6.
Louisville's last appearance at the meet was in 2008. Both the men's and women's squads secured team victories, while Scott McClain and Tarah McKay won individual titles in their respective races.
