LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) - A University of Louisville basketball player is under investigation for allegedly punching his girlfriend's stepfather.
Preston Knowles, a senior guard at U of L, is being investigated by the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff’s department is trying to determine whether Knowles was behind a physical assault that injured his girlfriend's stepfather.
Knowles isn’t currently facing any charges, but according to the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department and a police report, his girlfriend's stepfather says Knowles punched him the face, causing him black-eyes and bruises.
Detectives say they responded to a domestic call late Sunday in the Miller’s Crossing area of Bullitt County.
“What they learned was there had been a verbal argument between Preston Knowles and his girlfriend over a hairbrush,” Det. Scotty McGaha, Bullitt County Sheriff’s Department, said. “Preston Knowles called her names. At one point, the girlfriend’s stepfather intervened and got in a confrontation with Preston Knowles."
Detectives said Knowles has been in contact with them and they have also been talking with Coach Rick Pitino. Knowles has agreed to come in for questioning Tuesday at the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department.
His girlfriend’s family is also coming in to talk to detectives.
After detectives finish their investigation they will turn it over to Bullitt County attorney to see if any charges will be filed.
WHAS11 News contacted the University of Louisville Athletics Department to ask them about the investigation into the alleged incident. They did not want to make a comment.
