LOUISVILLE, Ky. (News Release) -- After several years on hiatus, the Dirt Bowl will end a month long series of competitions with the Championship game Sunday night.

The final game of Dirt Bowl 2012 will start at 7:30 p.m. in Shawnee Park and will be followed by an after-game ceremony with a championship trophy presentation by founders Ben Watkins and Janice Carter.

The first Dirt Bowl was held in 1969 as a way to bring basketball and family style picnics together. For decades, it helped produce some of the most promising college and professional basketball greats in the nation.

The 2012 Dirt Bowl began with 20 teams competing in league play on June 30.
