CINCINNATI (AP) -- Reds outfielder Ryan Ludwick hurt his right shoulder while sliding into base in the third inning of their season opener against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday.
Shin-Soo Choo opened the inning with a double and advanced on a groundout. Ludwick walked with two outs. Choo scored on Jered Weaver's wild pitch, sliding home just ahead of the tag, and Ludwick continued on to third base while catcher Chris Iannetta argued the call.
Ludwick's right arm caught in the dirt on a headfirst slide. He was safe at the base, but immediately grabbed the side of his shoulder. He left the game for an examination. Chris Heisey took his place.
Ludwick got a two-year, $15 million deal last December to stay with Cincinnati.
