TUCSON, Ariz. – Louisville junior right-hander Justin Amlung added another honor to his impressive career on Thursday when he was selected Third Team Louisville Slugger All-America by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The 2012 BIG EAST Conference Pitcher of the Year, Amlung (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier HS) is 8-4 with a 2.36 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 103.0 innings pitched entering this weekend’s Tucson Regional in the NCAA Championship. A two-time First Team All-BIG EAST selection, Amlung is the third Cardinal in the last four years to be named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and earn All-America honors in the same season joining Thomas Royse (2010) and Justin Marks (2009).

During his three collegiate seasons in Louisville, Amlung is 23-8 overall with a 2.80 ERA and 235 strikeouts in 273.1 innings pitched. He ranks second at U of L in career wins and ERA, third in strikeouts, fifth in starts (40) and sixth in innings pitched. His 100 strikeouts so far this season rank third on the Cardinals’ single season rankings.
Amlung becomes the 13th All-American selection for the Louisville baseball program during head coach Dan McDonnell’s six seasons at the helm.

The 25th-ranked Cardinals will open the Tucson Regional against New Mexico State on Friday at 7 p.m., ET, at Hi Corbett Field in a nationally televised game on ESPNU.
