University of Louisville junior left-handed starter Justin Marks has been named to the first College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Year Watch List released on Tuesday.
The Owensboro, Ky., native is 6-2 this season with a 3.66 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 64.0 innings. In less than three full seasons in Louisville, Marks has become the Cardinals' career leader in wins (24), strikeouts (256) and ERA (2.81). He also ranks third in career starts (42) and fifth in innings pitched (259.2).
The CBF Pitcher of the Year will be honored during the College Baseball Awards Show on July 2 in Lubbock. The College Baseball Awards Show will recognize the top players in college baseball as part of the CBF's annual celebration, which also includes the National College Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. In addition to the Pitcher of the Year Award, other awards presented during the show will include the Brooks Wallace Award to the national shortstop of the year and the Dick Howser Trophy for the national player of the year.
Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for a three-game BIG EAST series at Villanova starting Friday at 3:45 p.m. ET, with Marks on the hill. Saturday's second game is set for 12:45 p.m., while Sunday's finale is scheduled for a 12:15 p.m., start.
