(WHAS11) -- Louisville Cardinals fans are pumped that Head Football Coach, Charlie Strong, isn't ditching the team.
He got chocked up during the press conference and many say it showed his high level commitment to the University of Louisville.
"I certainly am glad Coach Strong is going to stay here at UofL and I wish the team well," said Cards fan, Phil Ardery.
Nick Stoneburg, UofL sophomore, said, "I definitely think it's a great thing saying he wants to be a father for everyone and he's sticking around. Cards strong, that's what he really showed today."
Adam Noland, UofL Graduate student, said, "I expect them to keep winning with him as coach. With Kragthorpe, there's definitely a lull for the program."
It was a fumble for the University of Tennessee when Coach Strong turned down a deal worth $3.5 million, according to ESPN.
At his press conference today, Strong said he thought 80% of Cards fans believed he would take the offer.
Strong expressed he wanted to do what's best for the team, his family and the future of the Cards... thanking Athletic Director Tom Jurich for all the support.
Cards fans even forgave him for comparing them to Big Blue Nation earlier this week.
"If you look at the overall majority of the Cards fan base we really are there for him and the team and all sports at UofL," said UofL senior, Taylor Gwynn.
Mario Benavides, UofL Football Center said on Twitter under his handle '@supermariob55', "Feels great that it's over from an outsider's perspective but we knew all along he wasn't going anywhere."
Fans say it's time to focus on beating Florida in the Sugar Bowl.
