LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It's a winning partnership; the NCAA and Northwestern Mutual. Last year they raised more than $200 thousand with Kentucky's championship floor and this year they're going for a repeat victory. This time with the 2013 National Champion's floor-- the Louisville Cardinals.

“To see the magnitude of it hanging, I'm just trying to imagine it being held by steel beams. It's amazing,” U of L men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino, said.

The center court from Louisville's championship game will be the center of attention at the KFC Yum! Center next season, weighing more than 6000 pounds. It's where the Cards won it all.

“This particular group of Cardinals were very special. They embodied courage, character, and commitment on and the court. They truly rose to the occasion,” Dan Rivers, Northwestern Mutual Kentucky’s managing partner, said.

While the Cards fought hard for a title, there are children in our community in a much greater one.

“You know another place where you can find courage, character, and commitment on display everyday is on the 7th floor of Kosair Children's Hospital. There you will find some very brave children who are literally in the fight for their lives,” Rivers, said.

The rest of the court will soon be available to fans to benefit Kosair Children's Hospital and cancer research.

“Three different size pieces will be for sale, with some pieces for under a hundred dollars,” Rivers, said.

Coach Rick Pitino has agreed to autograph one thousand of them to raise even more money.

“The most important thing is supporting Kosair and pediatric cancer. There's no better cause that we could support than that,” Pitino, said.

It's a piece of history honoring the Cards, the kids, and the community.
