(WHAS11) Two horse trainers and at least 43 horses are dead after a fire at a harness racing track near Cincinnati.
The fire ignited early Saturday morning at the Lebanon Raceway in Warren County, Ohio. By the time crews arrived, the roof of the barn had collapsed.
The Dayton Daily News reports that arson is not suspected and that the trainers were probably asleep in the barn when the fire broke out.
A spokesperson said, “What we’ll do is we’ll work through the scene throughout the morning and perhaps early afternoon. It could take days to determine exactly what we’re dealing with here. “
The fire followed live racing at the racetrack Friday night. Saturday racing was cancelled, but Lebanon’s traditional horse-drawn carriage parade went on as scheduled.
