Throws Group Leads Louisville Track and Field at Gladstein Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (NEWS RELEASE) – The throws group highlighted the University of Louisville track and field team’s performance at the Gladstein Invitational Friday night in the Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind.
 
Senior Khadija Abdullah registered her third-straight victory in the shot put, with a mark of 16.55m/54-3.75 to open the day. Abdullah’s season best of 16.80m/55-1.50, achieved earlier this season, was the fourth-best mark nationally coming into the meet. Teammates Amashi Kendall, who had a season-best toss of 16.13m/52-11, and Liberty Slinden finished second and fourth, respectively, in the event.
 
Sam Bombaugh led the men’s throws group with a first-place finish in the weight throw, recording a mark of 18.62m/61-1.25. Freshman Sebastian Lenz also posted a top-five showing, with a season-best mark of 17.40m/57-1.
 
On the track, Calvin Arsenault had another strong performance in the 60m hurdles. After placing first in the preliminaries of the event last weekend at the Kentucky Invitational, he took second in Friday’s semifinal with a time of 8.08. By placing in the top eight, the Kitchener, Ontario, native advanced to Saturday’s final at 11:45 a.m.
 
Louisville returns to action on Saturday for day two of the Gladstein Invitational at 11:25 a.m., with the men’s 200m finals.
