The411: With the Governor’s Cup just hours away a new era in Kentucky football is about to begin.
Photographer George Williams captured this photo with the first three African American head football coaches in the Commonwealth. This is also the first time in history that they will lead a Division 1 team.
The three coaches posed for Williams at the Kentucky NFL Hall of Fame Induction event honoring football legend Jim Brown.
The photo from left to right is University of Kentucky coach Joker Phillips, University of Louisville Charlie Strong and Western Kentucky University Willie Taggart.
Two of the three coaches, Phillips and Strong will start their season playing against one another in the Governor’s Cup Saturday. It will be held in Louisville, KY at the Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The kickoff is at 3:00 p.m. and can be see right here on WHAS11 News.
