(WHAS11)-- Trainer Bob Baffert has scratched his promising three year old Bayern from the San Felipe Stakes, a major Kentucky Derby prep that will be run Saturday at Santa Anita.
The Daily Racing Form reports that Bayern has been sidelined with a bruised foot and stayed in Baffert's Santa Anita barn on Friday.
Baffert was quoted as saying Bayern won't go to the track for several days and described the situation as a "holding pattern."
Bayern was to make his stakes debut in the San Felipe after winning an allowance race by 15 lengths on Feb. 13.
The favorite's spot in the San Felipe now switches to Baffert's other entry, Midnight Hawk or John Sadler's Kristo, who was second in the recent Sham Stakes.
Baffert also said that Bayern might train up to the Santa Anita Derby or Arkansas Derby if he recovers from the injury.
