Both the women's and men's teams are being honored for an amazing season.

"Basically, we got together yesterday [Tuesday] at 3 o'clock and started talking about how we are going handle up to 20 thousand people," Kevin Washam, the operations manager at the KFC Yum! Center said.

Overnight, a plan came together and on Wednesday morning, crews started setting up the stage for the players.

"Everybody is going to be in here happy and celebrating. A lot of TV cameras, so we are trying to take care of accommodations for all that, " Washam said.

Carl Brown, a long time Card fan said it's an honor to help work with this welcome home event.

"On the real, this is the best time to be in Louisville. This is like an early Derby here," Brown said.

For Joe Clark, who plans all the events for the KFC Yum! Center, he says this one is coming together at a record pace and it will not disappoint.

"It's always fantastic to see U of L come in here and play basketball and it's just a thrill to have them back in the building celebrating their national championship," Clark said.

Louisville’s men’s basketball team won its third NCAA national championship in school history on Monday, defeating Michigan 82-76 on Monday in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Luke Hancock tied a season high with 22 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, and was the recipient of the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award. Peyton Siva had 18 points, and Chane Behanan totaled a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Louisville out-rebounded Michigan, 32-27, and the Cardinals grabbed 15 offensive rebounds.
