(NEWS RELEASE) -- The University of Louisville’s Erin Conrad was named the BIG EAST Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the week on Oct. 29. Erin Schneidtmiller was selected to the weekly honor roll.
Conrad, a goalkeeper from Wilkes-Barre Pa., collected 10 saves on the week, including six in a must-win against Providence. With the 2-1 win, Louisville enters the 2012 BIG EAST Field Hockey field as the No. 3 seed. The senior also recorded four stops in a 4-3 overtime win over No. 21 Ohio State last week.
She now carries a 1.80 goals-against average with one shutout on the season.
Schneidtmiller, a junior forward from Louisville, Ky., scored two goals and dished out an assist to lead the Cards to a a 2-0 record on the week- Monday’s upset of No. 21 Ohio State and Saturday’s crucial 2-1 win over Providence. In the win over Ohio State, Schneidtmiller scored the equalizer to send the game into overtime and then assisted on the game-winner. She also registered the deciding goal in the 2-1 victory at Providence. Schneidtmiller now has seven goals and four assists for 18 points on the season.
The Cardinals (12-7, 3-3 BIG EAST) will face the No. 2 seed Connecticut in the semifinals Friday at 7:30 at Trager Stadium.
