MUNCIE, Ind. (News Release) – The University of Louisville has advanced two doubles teams to the finals of the Ball State Fall Invitational. Sophomore Luis Elizondo and freshman Jeffrey Brown and will play in the ‘A’ finals while sophomore Van Damrongsri and freshman Colton Buffington will compete for the ‘B’ championship on Sunday. Buffington also reached the ‘B’ singles flight finals and Elizondo will play for the ‘A’ consolation title on Sunday.
"We had an exceptional doubles day today. Both Jeff and Luis played with some fired up and loud doubles,” said U of L Rex Ecarma. “It really helped them get to the finals of the A division doubles. Van and Colton played Louisville style doubles - energetic, movement and energy. I am also pleased with Colton who is playing very aggressive transition tennis all the way to the B singles finals."
In ‘A’ doubles, Elizondo and Brown defeated Cleveland State’s Joe VanMeter and Jorg van der Vloet 8-5 in the quarterfinals and went on to beat Ball State’s Patrick Elliott and Cliff Morrison 9-7 in the semifinals.
Damrongsri and Buffington topped Dayton’s Kyle MacDonald and Enzo Milano 8-1 in the ‘B’ quarterfinals and registered an 8-5 win over IUPUI’s Armaan Choudhary and Joel Modesitt in the semifinals.
Buffington defeated IUPUI’s Modesitt 6-3, 6-4 and Ball State’s Alex Brym 6-2, 6-7(7-4), 10-8 to reach the finals of the ‘B’ division.
In the ‘A’ consolation quarterfinals, Elizondo defeated IPFW’s Gerard Guell 6-1, 6-2 and Dayton’s Andrew Hanley 6-2, 6-3 to earn a spot in finals.
