LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Many Louisville fans spent Sunday and Monday trying to figure out what to do with tickets they had already purchased for the Orange Bowl. After Kent State’s loss to Northern Illinois, the Cards we’re expected to play in Miami, but later got a bid to the Sugar Bowl.
“For me it was more important to get a good flight, get good seats, get everything ready because it hasn't happened since '06. So, we were excited,” said Sam Carter.
After Kent State’s loss, Carter bought four front row tickets to the Orange Bowl, made a hotel reservation, and booked a rental car. After the official announcement Sunday, he and other Louisville fans had to scramble to rebook their trips to New Orleans instead or try to get a refund.
“You would almost have to talk directly to the people you’ve paid the money up front to and see if you could sweet talk your way out of it,” said Russ Dunlap, VP of Platinum Travel.
Dunlap said airlines will charge you $150 to change your flight. Carter and his wife spent that money and were able to buy Sugar Bowl tickets and relist their Orange Bowl tickets on Stub Hub, but it cost them several hundred dollars to make the changes.
“Even if they lose it'll probably still be worth it is just to go,” said Carter.
As of Monday night, UofL said they have around 5,000 tickets left. Travel experts say anyone still looking to make the trip should book a reservation immediately and expect to pay a premium price.
