LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville’s Luis Elizondo finished runner-up in singles and teamed with Amaury Derognat for a runner-up doubles finish on the final day of the Louisville Winter Invitational.

"This was a high quality invitational with Kentucky, Indiana, Purdue and Middle Tennessee here,” said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. “With us having players in both the ‘A’ singles  and doubles finals says a lot about our depth. Luis and Amaury beat one good UK team but lost to the other in the final. Luis gave a valiant effort in the final but lost to nationally ranked and No. 1 IU player Sam Monette. Luis was the only player in the tournament to make it to both finals. Lastly, it was great to see former UofL tennis great, Jakob Gustafsson bring his Longwood University team to UofL."

In the ‘A’ doubles semifinals Elizondo and Derognat defeated Kentucky’s Charles Minc and Maks Gold 8-4 to advance to the championship match where they fell 8-1 to Kentucky’s Nils Ellefsen and Ryuji Hirooka. Louisville’s Jeffrey Brown and Michael Lippens lost to Ellefsen and Brown 8-4 in Sunday’s other semifinal match.

In the ‘A’ singles finals, Elizondo, who had posted four straight singles wins in the tournament, had his run halted when he lost 6-1, 6-4 to Indiana’s Sam Monette.
