University of Louisville women’s lacrosse head coach Kellie Young revealed the Cardinals’ 2013 schedule, highlighted by nine home games.

“The 2013 schedule once again brings some of the best talent into Louisville,” Young said. “Fans will get to see Ohio State, a rivalry match with Vanderbilt and BIG EAST rival Notre Dame. We are eager to attack the season, one game at a time, and establish ourselves among the best among the best Division I programs in the country.”

Louisville opens the year with three-straight home matches at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium, beginning with Canisius on Feb. 10. Six days later, the Cardinals play host to Ohio State, which posted an impressive 11-6 mark last year and advanced to the semifinals of the American Lacrosse Conference Tournament. Louisville wraps up the homestand with a Feb. 23 matchup with Old Dominion. The Cardinals own a 2-1 series advantage over the Monarchs.

One of the Cardinals’ toughest early season tests comes a little more than a week later, when Louisville flies west to face Denver on March 2. Last season, the meeting in Louisville between the two programs was canceled because of inclement weather. The Pioneers finished the year with a 12-3 record, going 6-1 in conference play.

After a quick trip home to face Vanderbilt on March 6, Louisville hits the road for five-straight matches, beginning with a neutral-site contest on March 9 against Presbyterian in Cumming, Ga. After contests against Detroit and Drexel, Louisville opens the conference portion of its slate with matches at Loyola (Md.) on March 22 and Georgetown on March 24. Loyola won the BIG EAST tournament title last year and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.

The Cardinals return home for a pair of games, starting with an April 5 matchup against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish went 13-5 last year and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Two days later, Louisville plays host to Marquette, which is preparing for its inaugural season in the sport.

Louisville makes its final regular-season road trip the following weekend, beginning on April 12 against 2012 BIG EAST regular-season champion and national runner-up Syracuse. The Orange is coming off a school-record 19 wins, which concluded with an 8-6 loss to Northwestern in the national title game. Louisville then heads to Connecticut on April 14.

Closing out the season, the Cardinals play host to Cincinnati (April 20), Rutgers (April 26) and Villanova (April 28). Prior to the start of the Villanova match, the program will honor seniors Janaye Dzikewich, Danielle Pawliw and Katie Oliverio.

The BIG EAST Tournament, which will be hosted by Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., begins on May 2 with a pair of semifinal matches and the title game will be held on May 4. All games will be played at the Multi-Sport Field on Georgetown’s campus.
