BOWLNG GREEN, Ky. (WHAS11)-- While all the focus is on college basketball tournaments this weekend, a state title is on the line for girls basketball teams.
The final four is set for the Houchens/KHSAA Sweet 16 from E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.
The two top teams in the state are still in the tournament and are both local. No. 1 Elizabethtown will face Clark Co. at 8 p.m. CST Saturday. Butler, the No. 2 team in the state, will face Ashland Blazer after that game at 6:30 p.m. CST.
The winner of each game will face off on Sunday for the title.
Elizabethtown has bee to the title game three times, in 1997, 1998 and most recently in 2009. They won the title in '98.
Butler won the inaugural "Sweet 16" in 1975, making a return trip to the title game in '76, losing to Sacred Heart of Louisville. The Bearettes won the 1980 title and more recently brough home the title in 2009, with Miss Basketball Tia Gibbs.
Neither Ashland Blazer nor Clark Co. have made it to the title game and are looking for the first state title in girls basketball.
