LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Lance Armstrong fans are sticking by the famed athlete.
"Technically he was stripped of his titles, but he won the races," Brad Swope said.
Swope said he knew early on when he competed against Lance Armstrong that Armstrong was a strong contender in the sport.
Swope and other racing fans said Armstrong changed the face of cycling, and Swope plans on sticking by Armstrong, "I've never seen the evidence that supports stripping him of his titles."
As Ironman competitors fill the city many of the athletes applaud the USADA's decision. Professional triathlete Jason Shortis said, “it’s about time the sport got cleaned up."
Shortis said doping was an unfortunate reality of the sport.
According to the Ironman race director, drug testing does happen at the triathlon. It can happen anytime and to any of the competitors.
“We have it here at the finish line available after the athletes are finished with the races," Beth Atnip said.
Atnip and other Ironman competitors said preserving the integrity of the completion is their biggest concern.
