Former Louisville Redbirds manager dies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The former manager of the Louisville Redbirds, Jim Fregosi, died Friday morning.

Fregosi was 71-years-old.

 He was a six-time Major League Baseball all-star shortstop and managed the triple-A Redbirds from 1983 to 1985. He led the Redbirds to two championships and a record breaking 1,000,000  fan season.  He also spent time managing in the major leagues at the California Angels, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies, which won the 1993 World Series.

His died after stroke related complications.
