It was the summer of 2010 and the fervor surrounding the 2010 World Cup of Soccer (televised by ESPN and ABC Sports) was building. That’s when WHAS11 launched the wildly popular(with my family and friends) and still much talked about(at dinner parties in which I am in attendance) FanManDan World Cup Fan Blog.
That blog gave us such internet gems as my review of the USA’s loss and this re-count of the story of my first sports memory with my young son. That blog was the most widely read sports story on the site at the time (since been passed by many) and that kid is now 5 and is now playing soccer his self.
In the weeks and months following the World Cup, the blog transitioned into a “Sports Fan Blog”(still giving us some well written highlights like this re-cap of Kentucky basketball’s trip to Canada and this un-researched football pre-view.)
It was all wavy like sausage gravy until life and other distractions slowed it to a halt. It was missed,(by my mother) the loss, hailed as a tragedy far and wide (not really true).
But like Happy Gilmore after Chubbs teaches him to putt or Daniel Larusso after Mr. Miagi’s magic knee treatment- I am back!
Now, before we get started (and gee, I wonder what topic we may be writing about on a sports blog this week) a few notes. This is now the “Dan the Fan” blog, and while the central issue in this sports fan blog will be, duh!- sports, this blog will be about more. It will be about being a dad, a husband, a friend and all the things that make life, life.
So in the coming weeks expect blogs about kids soccer games, family car trips, weddings, the World Cup and much more, but for now, well you know...
