Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Friends, family and the community are remembering University of Louisville football and track star, Lenny Lyles, as a trailblazer and hero.

“There’s so much to say about Lenny because he was great for the city,” said long-time friend Dale Orem.

Lyles’ family hosted a public memorial at the university honoring his life and accomplishments.

“He got young black men to think about not just next weekend or next week, but the next 10 years or the next generation,” said Radford Wilson, Lyles’ nephew.

Lyles was not only played at U of L, but went on to play 12 years in the NFL for the Baltimore Colts. He eventually came back to his roots and gave back to his community.
